Largest royal pottery decree in Vietnam
17:00 16/04/2009 3.5m in height, over 8m in width, comprising 214 pottery-made Han characters, the “Chieu Doi Do” (Edict on the Transfer of the Capital) at the Do Temple in Bac Ninh province is the largest royal pottery decree in Vietnam.
The management board of Do Temple, dedicated to the eight Ly Kings in Dinh Bang commune, Tu Son district, Bac Ninh province, has inaugurated this pottery “Chieu Doi Do”. The work was made on 30sq.m of land in front of the temple’s gate, to celebrate the 1,000th Thang Long-Hanoi anniversary.
This is part of the Edict on the Transfer of the Capital written by King Ly Thai To in Spring 1010, to move Dai Co Viet’s capital from Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh province to Dai La (Hanoi at present). The edit has 214 characters, to commemorate the 214 years of the Ly Dynasty.
The pottery-made edict at the Do Temple was made by the family of Pham Xuan Hoa, a craftsman from Bat Trang Pottery Village. The decree was written by the Huong Nam Han Nom class in Hanoi.
