Domestic filmmakers’ new TV series are increasingly being based on scripts appealing to a younger generation.

Hanh Tinh Xanh (Blue Planet) film studio, for example, last week started filming a 30-episode television series Mua He Soi Dong (Interesting Summer Holidays).

The series is about six teenagers who become good friends while on a 10-day summer vacation.

The series, which was written by well-known author Tran Thi Hong Hanh, will be aired on HTV in June when children begin summer holidays.

Another series, called Nhung Ngay He Xanh (Green Summer), features friendships between students and their relations with rural people.

The 21-episode TV series is now being shot by Lasta Film Studio.

Organised annually by the Viet Nam Youth and HCM City Students’ Associations, Green Summer is a campaign in which college and university students volunteer to work in rural areas.

Starring in the series are young actors Quynh Anh, Pham Thanh Thao, Kinh Quoc and Ngoc Xuan.

All of them took part in Green Summer Campaign while attending university.

With a script by Kwon In Chan from South Korea, the TV series Gia Dinh Phep Thuat (A Witchcraft Family) can be seen on HTV 7.

The 200-episode series is Viet Nam’s longest TV series for children.

"Each episode is filled with funny scenes and circumstances and it is entertaining," Bao Duy, 9, said.

The series is being screened on HTV7 on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings.

The hit Korean TV series Full House will be remade by BHD and Viet Studio this month.

The Vietnamese version of the series will be scripted by Vu Ngoc Dang, well-known for last year’s hit series Bong Dung Muon Khoc (Suddenly Want to Cry).

Singers Lam Truong and Thuy Tien will act in the series, along with performers Minh Hang and Luong Manh Hai.

Director Nguyen Minh Chung, following the huge success of Co Gai Xau Xi (a take-off on the hit US show Ugly Betty) next month will make the 120-episode Dung Dua Voi Thien Than (Don’t Mess with an Angel).

The script is written by Delia Fiallo, one of the most well-known scriptwriters in Latin America. BHD Film Studio bought the copyright to the script from a company in Mexico.

The first episodes of Don’t Mess with an Angel will be broadcast over VTV3 in October.

Several TV series focusing on young people are being made by film studios around the country.

Viet Nam Television’s Film Company (VFC) is recruiting young artists for its new TV series titled Vu Dieu XTeen (Teen Dances).

The series focuses on a group of young people addicted to hip hop.

The TV series Vong Xoay Tinh Yeu (Love Spiral) produced by Lasta and Tuyet Nhiet Doi (Snow in the Tropics) produced by M&T Pictures have sparked lively discussions among young fans.

"Fans’ attention to TV series has encouraged us a lot and we want to make more TV series for young people," Chung said.
