My Viet Nam photo contest launched nationwide
A photo contest entitled My Viet Nam has been launched on the website www.myvietnam.vn by the Tinhvan Group’s xalo.vn and Hoa Hoc Tro newspaper. The contest’s aim is to encourage teenagers to record realistic and beautiful images of the country in order to raise national awareness and to promote their love of their home. The contest is designed to bring lively and joyful visions of Viet Nam to international friends and the internet community. Young people aged 12-20 years old can post their entries on the website www.myvietnam.vn from now through August 31. The photos will be also patched together to form a map of Viet Nam when the contest ends. A best weekly and monthly photo will be chosen and highlighted on the website, with prizes given for them. Documentary teaches history, culture of Thang Long–Ha Noi A documental film entitled Thang Long Nhan Kiet (Thang Long’s Talents), about Ha Noi’s 1,000th anniversary, is now airing on Viet Nam Television every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The film tells the stories of celebrities such as Ly Cong Uan, Ly Thuong Kiet, Tran Hung Dao, Nguyen Trai and Ho Chi Minh. The stories provide useful bits of knowledge for its audience, particularly concerning the development of Thang Long–Ha Noi and the traditions and customs of the old capital during the last 1,000 years. The national television, along with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Viet Nam Airlines and Motion Media, will work to broadcast the 312-episode film from now to October next year, with a duration of five minutes per episode. New television series tackles reality of programmers in love A 40-episode film named Lap Trinh Cho Trai Tim (Programme the Heart), produced by FPT Media, will be presented on VTV3 on April 1, after Co Gai Xau Xi (The Ugly Girl) wraps up. The comic and modern film is a love story about a couple who met on the internet and how they deal with their love affair. It begs the question: can computer programmers programme their hearts? "The young may see themselves in these situations when watching the film," says Phi Tien Son, director of the film. Apollo offers English camp in Singapore for high schoolers Apollo’s English language summer camp for high school students this year will enable students to study in the classrooms of the National University of Singapore, and give them an opportunity to get a feeling for the study environment abroad, students and their parents were told at an orientation meeting in Da Nang last Saturday. Apollo has offered its overseas summer study programme for the past six years, basing the programme on games and other outdoor activities that help students acquire foreign languages both naturally and visually. Apollo also has domestic summer camps at the V Resort in northern province of Hoa Binh and the Green Resort in Long Thanh of southern Dong Nai Province, where students can enjoy nature and practice English with native-speaking Apollo teachers. At Saturday’s meeting, students were given registration information, and representatives of the National University of Singapore also introduced them to the facilities and curricula of the university. Similar meetings will be held in Ha Noi, HCM City and Hai Phong this month.
