Vietnam central province to host transnational cultural festival
16:50 04/03/2009
Quang Tri province in central Vietnam will hold a tourism festival next month which will also boost cooperation between countries lying along the East-West Economic Corridor.
Speaking at a press conference Friday to promote Inter-Asia Bridge – Quang Tri 2007, the province’s leader, Le Huu Phuc, said the festival would feature tourism promotion, musical and fashion events, and a trade fair in which hundreds of businesses from Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, China, and Vietnam take part. The province would invest over VND1 billion (US$62,266) in the festival which it held once before in 2004. Situated on the 1,450km-long corridor which is made up of four countries – Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam – Quang Tri is a tourism center with many famous historic and cultural sites. But because of its poor infrastructure, the province receives less than 300,000 international tourists each year, a tenth of the country’s total arrivals. When the festival was held last time, the province saw a 15-25 percent tourism growth. Reported by Tr.Bao, Luu Tam – Compiled by Luu Thi Hong Source : thanhniennews.com
