Traditional craft fest to showcase abundant talent and skills

  The boy is on the way with his village parents to the traditional craft fest   More than 60 famous craft villages from all over the country will present their wares at a weeklong festival in the central city of Da Nang.

 

 

Organizers aim to have the Vietnamese Craft Village festival, held this year from March 24-29, become a biannual event in Da Nang. Divided into five sections, the festival will cover the entire area of the 23/9 Park.

 

The wide variety of handicraft products from localities famous for them will include: Non Nuoc stoneware from Da Nang; sedge mats from Cam Ne; pottery from Bat Trang, Chu Dau and Bau Truc; copperware from Phuoc Kieu and Phu Xuan; lacquerware from Thach That and Thu Dau Mot; silk products from Van Phuc; rattan products from Ha Nam; brocade from Tay Bac and Dong Giang; folk art on traditional paper from Dong Ho and Lang Sinh; conical hats from Lang Chuong and Hue; and ornamental plants from Nam Dinh.

Apart from artifacts, food specialities from different regions will also be presented at the festival. These include: dry grease cake from Cam Le; fish sauce from Nam O, Nha Trang and Phu Quoc; wine from Lang Van and Bau Da; dry coconut pancake from Binh Dinh; coconut candy from Ben Tre; and powdered shrimp cake from Sa Dec.

The festival will serve hundreds of famous culinary specialties like the dry rolled pork cake from Khue Trung; noodle soup from Nam Dinh; grilled chopped fish from La Vong; and chicken rice from Tam Ki.

Visitors will also be able to observe artisans at work, sculpting, carving, painting and weaving.

The event will also include a conference titled "A craft skill for each village from 2006- 2015" to be chaired by the Vietnamese Craft Village Association. The conference will focus on clarifying the conditions and possibilities for development of new craft villages; and discuss relevant issues including the development of handicrafts in the context of industrialization and modernization of agriculture in rural areas.
