Chau Doc boat race winners announced

Hundreds of tourists and locals flocked to April 30 Park, or Basa Fish Park, in Chau Doc, An Giang Province on Sunday to watch the fourth annual Dragon Boat Races held by Victoria Chau Doc Hotel in collaboration with Chau Doc Sports Center.

The Chau Doc Town's female team races to the finish line in an area of Bassac River in front of Basa Fish Park.

Ten teams from Chau Phu, An Phu, Tan Chau districts and Chau Doc Town of An Giang Province competed in the race. Contestants participated in 500 meter and 1, 000 meter races in teams of 10 athletes and teams of 20 athletes.

The ladies team from Chau Doc Town won both the first prize in the 500 meter race and in the 1, 000meter race. First prize in the 10-man 500 meter race was won by Vinh Nguon team from Chau Doc Town, and first prize in the 20-man 500 meter race was won by Le Chanh 1 team from Tan Chau District. The Binh Thuy team of Chau Phu District came first boat in both the 1, 000 meter 10-man race and the 1, 000 meter 20-man race.

The dragon boat race, which is organized to promote Chau Doc as a destination for local and foreign tourists, are among the first sporting activities of the Lady Xu of Sam Mountain Festival, which was kicked off on Sunday at Lady Xu Temple with activities such as a release of the wind lantern, a climbing contest and a marathon for farmers at Sam Mountain (May 26), lion dances and folk games from May 26-29 at Vinh Dong Market among others.
